THE BALLAD OF NIKKI SUDDEN AND EPIC SOUNDTRACKS

Adrian Nicholas Godfrey (1956-2006)
Kevin Paul Godfrey (1959-1997)

There was a boy
Cried, “Ahoy!”
Though he owned
No ship nor boat.

That lack of craft
Made him seem daft—
Without a raft
How could he float?

Born Adrian,
An only son
(Until someone,
Kevin, made land);

His middle name—
No claim to fame—
Nicholas, 'came
Nikki, see, and

Suddenly he
Set out to sea
Now free to be
Piratical.

Kevin as well,
Epic as hell,
Felt the tide swell,
Tacked at will.

Soundtracks galore
As they made shore,
Songs to adore
And noises rude.

Explorers, they
Went round the bay
In want of prey,
In need of food.

They held swell maps.
They took long naps.
They knew collapse
Was ever near,

And then it came—
End to their game.
No one to blame
But treasures dear.

Epic and Nik,
Though unseasick,
For their next trick
The coast was clear:

With a new band
They took to land,
Upon the sand,
Nothing to fear . . .

Look out below!
Each goes solo
Yo ho, yo ho!
Their souls sing out

Until, it’s said,
Each dies in bed.
Now you have read
These lines about

Two Godfrey boys
Made tunes their toys.
Such work annoys
The bourgeoisie.

Our heroes won—
Their stuff lives on
After they’re gone
And so are we.
